Core Education was founded in January 2007 by a team of experienced associates who have been working closely together since 1988, with a wide range of skills and experience in the research and development of learning with emerging technologies.

Also visiting academic at Trinity College Dublin and busy constructing the UK's National Archive of Educational Computing. Until 2025, Richard was developing the OurKidsCode project for family learning in community centres across Ireland, after initially, In 2013, spending four years as course director for the Masters in Technology and Learning in the School of Computer Science & Statistics at Trinity College Dublin
Until 2013 Richard was Reader at the University of Bolton Institute for Educational Cybernetics and before that Director of Ultralab and caretaker of a global reputation. Richard co-founded Core Education in January 2007. With a background in teaching at secondary and university level his passion is the application of technology to make learning delightful and productive for the learner and employer. Richard has considerable research and consultancy experience in a range of areas including software, learning environments and digital creativity. His clients include government agencies, companies and UNESCO.
Stephen Capper MBA, FRSA - Director

Headteacher, school improver and scholar, Stephen set out as and English teacher. His experience, gained in London, City of Leicester and Essex schools, includes navigating two schools out of special measures, the careful and prolonged management of a school closure and the creation of co-operative learning partnership organisations combining the efforts of all local primary and secondary schools. Stephen gave the 2011 Owers Lecture on the University Technology College movement and works on school improvement nationally and internationally.
Janey Avery BSc NPQH - Associate
Janey is a highly experienced school leader, coach and consultant. She is trained in junior, middle and secondary phases with a specialism in Mathematics and SEND. She has taught in primary and secondary schools and has held the positions of SENCO, Deputy Headteacher in London, Essex and acting Principal in Kent. Janey has experience working in a range of settings and has successfully prepared schools for Ofsted inspection, most recently to ‘outstanding’ grades across the board. She works in the UK and abroad and has a successful track record as a teaching and learning coach.
Josh Goodacre - Associate
Joshua leads the development of Hatfield Wick Education’s virtual school, drawing on extensive senior leadership experience across two secondary schools in Essex. In these roles, he held responsibility for staff development, student progress, and the design and implementation of online curricula.
He currently serves as a Governor at Mid Essex Co-operative Academy (Alternative Provision), where he oversees SEND and Careers provision. In addition, Joshua works as a facilitator for NPQs, ECT programmes, and mentor training with the Saffron Teaching School Hub.
Prior to his career in education, Joshua worked within the finance division of a multinational pharmaceutical company based in Germany, as well as for a UK marketing agency—experience that continues to inform his strategic and analytical approach to education.
A committed advocate of lifelong learning, Joshua is passionate about supporting both students and educators to thrive. He champions the CARES 360 approach—an ethos centred on creating environments where every learner feels valued, understood, and empowered.
An early adopter of online education, Joshua explored its potential during his MTeach dissertation and has since built significant expertise in designing, delivering, and supporting high-quality digital learning. He has trained educators in effective online practice and continues to maintain a free-to-access educational platform.
Joshua has also contributed extensively to Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and Early Career Teacher (ECT) development, working with a range of local training providers. He brings considerable experience in staff development and performance management, with a particular focus on adaptive teaching and effective behaviour systems to meet the needs of all learners.
